About Stephanie

When your child is struggling, it can feel like you have tried everything. You have read the books, followed the advice, and put the suggested strategies into practice. When those strategies still do not help, you may start to wonder whether you are doing something wrong.

Stephanie Cherry understands how exhausting that can be. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Behavior Analyst, she helps parents understand what may be driving their child’s behavior and find practical ways to respond that fit their family.

Stephanie has more than 11 years of experience working with children and adolescents with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and complex emotional and behavioral needs. She has worked in and led ABA clinics and served as principal of a therapeutic private school. Those experiences taught her that behavior does not always tell the whole story. Understanding a child’s emotions, needs, and environment can change how a family moves forward.

Today, Stephanie primarily works with parents of children and teens with complex needs. She offers a place to sort through what is happening, consider what has and has not helped, and develop a plan that feels realistic at home. A child may occasionally join a session when it would help Stephanie understand a concern or guide the next steps.

Areas of Focus

  • Parent support for autism, ADHD, and anxiety: Understanding a diagnosis, identifying your child’s needs, and deciding what to do next.

  • Challenging behaviors: Looking beyond the behavior itself to identify patterns and build strategies suited to your child and family.

  • Diagnosis and next-step consultation: Helping parents make sense of recommendations, resources, and possible supports.

  • Young adults and life transitions: Navigating college, first jobs, relationships, independence, and identity.

  • Performance anxiety: Helping athletes, dancers, speakers, and other performers manage anxiety, strengthen focus, and build confidence.

  • Stress and burnout: Supporting high-achieving individuals who feel overwhelmed or disconnected despite continuing to meet demands.

  • Habit and behavior change: Understanding patterns that keep you stuck and making changes you can sustain.

Stephanie’s Approach

Stephanie’s style is warm, collaborative, and practical. She earned her Master of Science in Counseling from Abilene Christian University and later completed the training for her BCBA credential through the University of North Texas.

She draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, DBT-informed skills, and solution-focused approaches. When helpful, she may use the Enneagram to explore motivations and relationship patterns. Her counseling and behavioral backgrounds allow her to consider both the emotional and practical sides of a concern.

Stephanie knows that parents may arrive feeling worn down from advocating, coordinating care, and trying to make daily life work. You do not need to have the right words for the problem or a plan already in place. You can start with what is happening now and work together to figure out what comes next.
